Connor McDavid Scores 22 Seconds Into First Game Vs. Jack Eichel (Video)

It didn’t take long for Connor McDavid to strike first against Jack Eichel in the first ever meeting between the top two picks in the 2015 NHL Draft on Tuesday night.

The Edmonton Oilers center scored a nice backhand goal just 22 seconds into the first period to give his team a 1-0 edge over the Buffalo Sabres.

McDavid, who the Oilers selected first overall last June, has been on an incredible scoring pace since returning from injury last month with 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in his last 15 games.

His 1.07 points per game is the best among rookies. Chicago Blackhawks winger Artemi Panarin, who leads all first-year players in scoring, ranks second with 0.92 points per contest.

Eichel, the second overall pick by the Sabres last year, is fifth with a 0.65 points per game average.
