The Union (2-1-0) won their second consecutive game and tied the Montreal Impact for the early lead in the Eastern Conference standings.

New England (0-1-2) played with 10 men after Je-Vaughn Watson was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Roland Alberg in the 36th minute.
