Kawhi Leonard Still Drives Car From High School, Uses Free Wing Coupons

It appears the San Antonio Spurs already have their next Tim Duncan.

Kawhi Leonard signed a five-year, $94 million contract this offseason to remain in San Antonio, but that apparently hasn’t stopped the 24-year-old forward from keeping a low profile. Lee Jenkins interviewed Leonard for Sports Illustrated, and it turns out the Spurs star doesn’t act like your typical multimillionaire.

“He often drives a rehabbed ’97 Chevy Tahoe, nicknamed Gas Guzzler, which he drove across Southern California’s Inland Empire as a teenager,” Jenkins wrote. “‘It runs,’ Leonard explains, ‘and it’s paid off.'”

But it doesn’t end there. Leonard also still uses coupons, in particular, ones for free chicken wings.

“He is happy to sponsor Wingstop, which sends him coupons for free wings, so he can feed his Mango Habanero addiction,” Jenkins wrote. “This winter, after his $94 million contract kicked in, he panicked when he lost his coupons. Wingstop generously replenished his supply.”

We can’t say we blame anyone for wanting free wings, though, no matter how much money they have.
