Tre Mason must fight to earn playing time behind Todd Gurley next season, but he didn’t do himself any favors with this weekend’s transgression.
The Los Angeles Rams running back was arrested Saturday night in Hollywood, Fla., on suspicion of marijuana possession, reckless driving, failure to register a motor vehicle and resisting arrest, according to a Broward County police report.
Per the report, officers observed Mason driving more than twice the speed limit in a 35-mph zone and immediately began following him, but the 22-year-old continued driving and only stopped when his Porche was blocked by another vehicle. According to an officer on the scene, Mason refused to give his name or provide his driver’s license. The officers found 12 grams of marijuana inside the car and reported that Mason’s car wasn’t properly registered, according to AL.com.
Mason refused to exit his car after being arrested, at which point the officers used a taser to subdue him. They tasered him a second time outside his car when he refused to put his hands behind his back, according to the report.
Mason was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance but did not go to jail, as his bond was posted while he was at the hospital.
“We are very disappointed to learn of an incident involving Tre Mason in the Miami, Fla., area Saturday afternoon,” the Rams said Sunday in a statement. “We are in the process of obtaining more information about the facts surrounding this incident and will have no further comment at this time.”
After a strong rookie season in which he rushed for 765 yards and four touchdowns, the Auburn product saw his numbers take a hit in 2015 as Gurley won the starting job. Mason earned just 75 carries and ran for 207 yards, a 2.8-yard average.
