Report: Royals Might Seek ‘Retribution’ For Noah Syndergaard Brush-Back Pitch

The Kansas City Royals won the World Series last fall, but it sounds like they’re still a little ticked by what Noah Syndergaard did to open Game 3.

Syndergaard caught the Royals’ attention in a big way when he threw the first pitch over KC shortstop Alcides Escobar’s head.

The Mets pitcher insisted he was just trying to establish the inside corner, which is reasoning just about no one believed. Instead, it was viewed as Syndergaard and the Mets trying to send a message to Escobar, who was hitting .364 for the playoffs at the time, and to the Royals, who led the World Series two games to none.

Kansas City never actually retaliated — other than winning the World Series, of course. But as the Mets and Royals open the 2016 season on Sunday night, KC might have revenge on its mind.

“Perhaps it is nothing more than mind games, a ploy for intimidation. But multiple industry sources told Newsday that the Royals have been signaling their intent to seek retribution against the Mets on opening night,” Newsday’s Marc Carig wrote Tuesday.

Interesting. Very interesting.

As we’ve seen in the past, the Royals are no strangers to getting into it with their opponents, so this definitely is something to watch Sunday or Tuesday, when Syndergaard is the scheduled starter.
