Travis Shaw, Blake Swihart Power Red Sox To 6-2 Win Over Pirates

BRADENTON, Fla. — Travis Shaw hit a two-run home run and singled in a run, helping the Boston Red Sox beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 on Wednesday.

Shaw has eight hits and two walks in 16 plate appearances so far in spring training. He is competing with converted outfielder Hanley Ramirez for playing time at first base.

Blake Swihart had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and Pablo Sandoval stopped an 0-for-11 skid with an RBI double.

Top Boston prospect Yoan Moncada was called up from minor league camp, started at second base and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Red Sox starter Joe Kelly gave up one run and three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh’s Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs on four hits in three innings.
