BOSTON — David Ortiz didn’t get his walk-off home run in Monday’s home opener against the Baltimore Orioles, so he started Tuesday’s contest off with a bang.

The Red Sox designated hitter put a two-run homer off Orioles starter Mike Wright into Baltimore’sĀ bullpen in the first inning to give Boston an early lead. It was Ortiz’s third home run of the young season and his first of the year at Fenway Park.

Ortiz was in a position to win Monday’s game when he came up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning with two runners on and no outs andĀ the Red Sox down by two runs. He ended up grounding into a double play, and Boston lost 9-7.

Big Papi certainly got his revenge Tuesday, though, just in time for David Ortiz 500 necklace night at Fenway.
