Mass. Attorney General Rips NFL’s Handling Of Deflategate, Domestic Violence

Most rational people find it absurd that the NFL has dedicated 15 months (and counting) to the question of whether a few footballs were slightly underinflated in a game that was decided by 38 points.

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is one of those people.

Healey on Monday criticized the league for focusing so much time and energy on Deflategate and not enough on serious issues such as domestic violence.

“My view remains that the NFL spent way too much time and energy and attention on this issue when it had missed the boat for a long time on the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault,” Healey told the Boston Herald. “That’s where I would like to see them focus their attention.”

The deflated-footballs controversy reinserted itself into the news cycle Monday when the U.S. Court of Appeals voted to reinstate Tom Brady’s four-game suspension. Though the New England Patriots quarterback is expected to fight the ruling, he currently is ineligible to play until Week 5 of the 2016 season.

“I haven’t read the decision, but I am disappointed there is a decision out there that may keep Tom Brady from taking the field against Arizona this September (in Week 1),” Healey, a self-professed Patriots fan, told the Herald. “I am disappointed about that.”
