Bayern Munich, one of the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League, visits Benfica, one of the competition’s surprise packages, with both teams’ fates on the line.
Lisbon’s Stadium of Light will be the site of the second leg of the quarterfinal series between the German and Portuguese soccer powers. Bayern Munich won last week’s meeting 1-0, and another early goal could kill off Benfica’s chances of progressing to its first European Cup/Champions League semifinal since 1990.
Bayern Munich has reached the semifinals in each of the last four seasons and remains the heavy favorite to book a fifth trip. Bayern Munich will be missing injured defenders Holger Badstuber, Medhi Benatia and Jerome Boateng, as well as stricken winger Arjen Robben.
Benfica also will be without leading players. Goalkeeper Julio Cesar will sit out with a thigh injury, while top scorer Jonas is suspended. Kostas Mitroglou is expected to lead Benfica’s attack in the deciding game.
Here’s how to watch Benfica vs. Bayern Munich online.
