American Pharoah Continues To Win Off Race Track With Breeding Success

American Pharoah’s racing days are over, but he’s still doing some work in retirement.

After winning horse racing’s first Triple Crown in 37 years and the Breeder’s Cup in 2015, American Pharoah settled down at Ashford Stud in Kentucky, where he’s spending his days breeding. And by all accounts, he’s been pretty successful at that, too.

American Pharoah has had 100-plus breeding sessions, and he has a success rate of 80 percent, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

“If every horse was like him we’d be lucky,” Scott Calder of Ashford’s sales and marketing division told the Lexington Herald-Leader. “… He’s taken to it like a champion.”

American Pharoah usually has one to three sessions per day during the five-month breeding season, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader, and his stud fee costs a whopping $200,000.

So not only is American Pharoah an all-time great thoroughbred, but he’s also a champion breeder, too.
