BOSTON — One Red Sox fan really wanted a piece of history Sunday. Instead, he wound up with a face full of concrete.
With two runners aboard in the second inning of the Red Sox’s matchup with the Cleveland Indians, David Ortiz rippedĀ an RBI double that bounced into the Fenway Park bleachers in right field. It was his 602nd career double, moving him past Barry Bonds for 14th on Major League Baseball’s all-time list.
But that’s not what’s important here. What’s important is this man in the gray sweatshirt, who threw caution to the wind in a Herculean effort to snag Ortiz’s historic double:

Unfortunately, his efforts were wasted, as he took quite the spill while the ball sailed past him.

He appeared to be OK after his tumble, although we’d imagine his pride is a little bruised.
