Magic Johnson Wants Lakers To Go After LeBron James, Kevin Durant This Summer
With Kobe Bryant’s career now over, the Los Angeles Lakers are, for the first time since the mid-1990s, a team devoid of superstars. Magic Johnson hopes that changes this offseason.
Johnson, who spent his entire Hall of Fame career in purple and gold, tweeted Monday morning that he wants his old team to make a play for the crown jewel of this summer’s free-agent class: Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant.
Of course, that’s not exactly a hot take. Durant has been one of the NBA’s best players for years now, and he’s sure to be bombarded with offers from teams if and when he hits the open market.
Johnson doesn’t want the Lakers to stop there, though. He’d also like to see L.A. reach out to another fairly high-profile player.
Hey, it can’t hurt to ask.
The Lakers are in desperate need of a shakeup, though. They haven’t finished higher than 14th in the Western Conference since 2013, and their 17 wins this season was the lowest single-season total in franchise history.
