The Washington Redskins announced Thursday they have locked up tight end Jordan Reed to a multiyear contract extension.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter cited a source in reporting Reed’s five-year deal is worth $50 million with $22 million guaranteed, making the 25-year-old one of the NFL’s highest-paid pass-catchers.
Reed, a 2013 third-round draft pick, had a breakout season in 2015, setting a franchise record for receiving yards by a tight end with 952. He also led the team with 87 receptions and 11 touchdowns in 14 games.
According to Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, that’s just the start of what’s to come.
“(Reed) can get a lot better, that’s the scary part,” Gruden said, via the team’s website. “He is a very natural-gifted route-running tight end with natural hands and great ability to run after the catch.”
