Rick Porcello’s Start Pushed To Tuesday After Red Sox-Royals Rainout

The Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals will begin their three-game series one day late after heavy rains washed out Monday night’s series opener at Kauffman Stadium.

The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader Wednesday, and Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters after the rainout was announced that he will keep the order of his starting rotation intact.

That means Rick Porcello, who was scheduled to pitch Monday, instead will take the ball Tuesday night, and Steven Wright and David Price will start the first and second games of the twin bill, respectively.

With Porcello’s start being pushed back one day, the Red Sox will need to add an additional starting pitcher to work Saturday’s matchup with the Cleveland Indians. Right-hander Joe Kelly, who’s set to make his third rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday night, is a candidate, Farrell told reporters.
