Dustin Pedroia Gets Night Off As Red Sox Open Series Vs. White Sox

BOSTON — Dustin Pedroia will enjoy a rare night off Monday as the Red Sox open a four-game series against the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park.

Red Sox manager John Farrell confirmed before the game that Pedroia would be held out of the starting lineup as part of a scheduled rest day. The second baseman had started 27 consecutive games and appeared in all but two of Boston’s first 68 contests this season.

Marco Hernandez will start in Pedroia’s place and bat ninth as the Red Sox look to pick up their third consecutive win.

Boston, which took two of three from the Seattle Mariners over the weekend, will send the American League’s ERA leader, Steven Wright, to the mound opposite Chicago’s Miguel Gonzalez.

The knuckleballer has been lights-out for Boston this season, allowing three or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 13 starts and carrying a five-start winning streak into Monday’s series opener.
