Fans do stupid things at Major League Baseball games all the time, but this guy just raised the bar.
Early in the fifth inning of the Seattle Mariners’ game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Safeco Field on Saturday, Cardinals batter Matt Carpenter lifted a routine fly ball to left field.
But the play became anything but routine when a crazy fan hopped the outfield fence and ran toward the infield while the ball still was in the air.

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all…
Somehow, Mariners left fielder Seth Smith still made the catch, and the American flag-draped fan promptly was tackled by stadium security.

This could have been a lot worse, so props to Smith for keeping his concentration and the security guard for a solid form tackle on the rogue fan. The Mariners held on to win 5-4.
