Chris Berman Caps Home Run Derby With Awkward Muhammad Ali Reference

When it became clear Todd Frazier would not catch Giancarlo Stanton in the final round of Monday night’s Home Run Derby, you likely were counting down the seconds until ESPN commentator Chris Berman dropped a “down goes Frazier” reference. You just knew it was coming.

And you were right, as that’s exactly how Berman punctuated Stanton’s record-setting Derby victory.

But rather than simply offering the same tired line he has uttered for decades, the longtime broadcaster preceded it with a cringeworthy nod to Muhammad Ali’s recent death that made viewers more than a bit uncomfortable.

Not the best call there, Boomer.
