Junior Lake Amazingly Makes Contact Twice On Same Swing, Gets Base Hit

One of the best things about baseball is that every game can produce a bizarre moment that defies logic, and Junior Lake’s base hit Sunday certainly falls into that category.

The Toronto Blue Jays outfielder came to bat in the ninth inning against the Oakland Athletics and delivered a single up the middle that looked perfectly normal at first glance. But a slow-motion replay revealed that Lake’s routine hit was anything but.

Lake got jammed on the inside pitch but somehow managed to get a hit by making contact twice, as the ball made contact with both the inside and outside of his bat.

Incredibly, Lake’s unique hit in Toronto’s 5-3 win wasn’t even the first of its kind this season, as Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips did almost the exact same thing back in May.
