BOSTON — The Red Sox will welcome their leadoff hitter back Monday night.
Mookie Betts returns to the top of Boston’s order and will patrol right field at Fenway Park as the Sox open up a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers. Betts missed his first two games of the season this weekend after leaving Friday’s contest against the Minnesota Twins with knee soreness.
David Ortiz will join Betts in the Red Sox’s lineup in his usual designated hitter spot after getting Sunday’s game off. Brock Holt will bump over to left field, Travis Shaw will resume duties at third base and Hanley Ramirez will return to the field playing first base.
Sandy Leon is back behind the plate batting ninth and catching for Drew Pomeranz, who is seeking redemption after getting tagged for five runs over three innings last Wednesday in his Boston debut. The left-hander will be opposed by Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander.
