Muhammad Wilkerson Staying With Jets Thanks To Massive Contract Entension

Most of the talk prior to Friday’s franchise tag deadline centered around the Denver Broncos and Von Miller. But the New York Jets also were coming down to the wire in their negotiations with Muhammad Wilkerson.

But drama was averted for both teams, as Miller agreed to a contract with the most guaranteed money for a non-quarterback in NFL history, and Wilkerson re-upped with the Jets. Official terms of Wilkerson’s extension weren’t announced by the team, but a source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport it’s a five-year, $85 million extension with $54 million guaranteed in the first three years.

The 26-year-old defensive lineman had one of the best seasons of his career in 2015 with his 12 sacks and 64 combined tackles.
