The Boston Celtics reportedly aren’t done making moves.
The Celtics will pick up their 2016-17 option on forward Amir Johnson, NBA sources told The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday.
Johnson signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Celtics prior to the 2015-16 season, but only the first year was guaranteed. The second year of Johnson’s deal originally was scheduled to become official last Saturday, but the Celtics pushed the date back to Thursday as they pursued free-agent superstar Kevin Durant, who eventually signed with the Golden State Warriors.
Johnson, 29, has played for the Celtics, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors in his 11-year career. He averaged 7.3 points and 6.4 rebounds in 79 games for the C’s last season.
The Celtics also reportedly will guarantee Jonas Jerebko’s contract for next season. Jerbko, 29, came to the Celtics in 2015 as part of a trade with the Detroit Pistons, and the six-year NBA veteran averaged 4.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 78 games.
