It appears the NFL’s biggest wide receiver-cornerback feud still is alive and well.
Norman now is on the Washington Redskins, which means he’ll face Beckham’s Giants twice during the 2016 season. A conspiracy theorist could claim Norman, who got into a highly publicized Twitter spat with Beckham just before signing a five-year, $57 million contract with Washington, joined an NFC East club so he could get two shots a year at his archrival.
That obviously seems like a stretch, but it appears Beckham actually subscribes to that theory, telling GQ in a recent interview that Norman picking Washington was a “smart business move” that will help keep the 28-year-old “relevant.”
“If I wasn’t playing him twice a year, maybe people wouldn’t bring it up as much,” Beckham told GQ. “But now it’ll be a lot more media attention for him, attention that I don’t really look for, attention I don’t really need. The reason that he’s become so relevant is because of me.”
Norman is coming off a stellar Pro Bowl campaign that earned him the largest contract for a cornerback in NFL history, so it’s tough to side with Beckham here. Either way, though, neither Beckham nor Norman seems intent on burying the hatchet, meaning we should see some entertaining Giants-Redskins games this season.
