Usain Bolt might be to blame for a scare at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Emergency crews rushed to the airport Sunday night around 9:30 p.m. ET after a report that gunshots had been fired. Police soon discovered there was no gunfire, and an official told NBC News that “cheering, clapping and banging” from people watching the Summer Olympics might have been misinterpreted as a fight and gunshots.
Bolt won gold in the 100-meter dash, which took place right around the time the JFK airport report surfaced Sunday night. So, in theory, the “cheering, clapping and banging” that seemingly was misinterpreted could have been a product of Bolt supporters going crazy over his Olympic victory in Rio de Janeiro.
The important thing here, of course, is that it was a false alarm and everyone is OK. The fact that Bolt’s fans can be so boisterous is rather impressive, though.
