Red Sox Vs. Padres Lineup: David Ortiz Sits; Drew Pomeranz Starts Vs. Former Team

The Boston Red Sox are playing in a National League ballpark Monday, which means David Ortiz is out of the starting lineup.

The designated hitter will take a seat while the Red Sox take on the Padres in San Diego, and shortstop Xander Bogaerts will bat out of Ortiz’s usual No. 3 spot in the order. Brock Holt will bat second and start in left field.

Drew Pomeranz is on the mound for the first time against his former team after being traded to Boston from the Padres before the non-waiver trade deadline. The lefty has been pretty successful at Petco Park this season, owning a 4-3 record and 2.64 ERA there. Bryan Holaday will catch for Pomeranz and bat eighth.
