Travis Shaw Lengthens Red Sox’s Lead Vs. A’s With Huge Three-Run Homer

Travis Shaw apparently was well aware of some 21-year-old kid sitting on the Boston Red Sox’s bench.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said before Friday’s game against the Oakland Athletics that top prospect Yoan Moncada would receive most of the reps at third base against right-handers from here on out, per The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham, leaving Shaw in an awkward spot. But Shaw, who was batting .167 in August and .248 on the season heading into the game, made some noise with a monster three-run homer in the sixth inning.

The home run was Shaw’s 15th of the season and put the Red Sox up 12-2 over the A’s.
