Bulls Reportedly Agree To Deal With R.J. Hunter Days After Celtics Waive Him

R.J. Hunter didn’t wait long to find himself a new job.

The 23-year-old guard, whom the Boston Celtics waived Monday, has agreed to a contract with the Chicago Bulls, ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported Wednesday, citing a source.

Hunter was the odd man out on the front court-loaded Celtics, as shooting guard James Young beat him out for the 15th and final roster spot. Yet the Georgia State product, who was taken 28th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, showed some promise during his rookie campaign as a 3-point shooting threat.

Hunter appeared in 38 games for Boston last season, averaging 2.7 points in 8.8 minuts per game.

Ironically enough, Hunter joins a Bulls team whose home opener is Thursday night against the Celtics. In fact, Boston will play Chicago twice in the next week, meeting again at TD Garden on Nov. 2 to give Hunter ample time to catch up with his old mates.
