Celtics Roster Moves: R.J. Hunter Reportedly Waived; James Young Makes Team

The battle for the Boston Celtics’ 15th and final roster spot apparently has ended.

The Celtics waived second-year guard R.J. Hunter on Monday, a source told ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman. That means James Young, who also was on the fringe of making the team, is on the roster, according to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Those moves come after the C’s tried to shop Hunter for a second-round pick, according to Wojnarowski.

Boston took Hunter with the 28th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Georgia State, and he showed some promise last season as a 3-point specialist. Yet Hunter, who ironically celebrated his 23rd birthday Monday, appeared in just 36 games during the 2015-16 season, and it appears the team instead is rolling with Young, who is just 21 years old despite entering his third NBA season.

Young was the Celtics’ 17th overall selection out of Kentucky in 2014 and has yet to make much of an impact in Boston. He has two full seasons under his belt, though, and it appears head coach Brad Stevens and Co. are hoping he can turn the corner in Year Three.

With the 15th spot reportedly settled, here’s what the Celtics roster will look like for Wednesday night’s season opener against the Brooklyn Nets:
