Dont’a Hightower’s Huge Hit Injures Cody Kessler, Results In Patriots Safety

CLEVELAND — When you’re playing against a linebacker of Dont’a Hightower’s caliber, it’s not wise to leave him completely unblocked.

That’s exactly what the Cleveland Browns did Sunday, and it cost them two points and their starting quarterback.

Late in the first quarter of the New England Patriots’ visit to First Energy Field, Hightower came flying through the line on a blitz and leveled Kessler, who landed hard on his right shoulder.

The hit also caused Kessler to fumble the ball backward, resulting in a safety.

The Browns later announced Kessler was questionable to return with “chest and rib injuries.” Journeyman Charlie Whitehurst is his backup, while wide receiver Terrelle Pryor also has the ability to take snaps out of Wildcat-type formations.
