Jason Kipnis Sprained His Ankle Celebrating Indians’ AL Pennant, But ‘Good To Go’

This almost was the most Cleveland injury of all time.

Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis apparently sprained his ankle last Wednesday while celebrating Cleveland’s World Series-clinching victory in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series over the Toronto Blue Jays. He hugged shortstop Francisco Lindor during his excitement, and while they were jumping around, Kipnis landed on Lindor’s foot, twisting his own left ankle in the process.

Fortunately, it appears Kipnis will be fine and that the injury isn’t that bad. He even participated in a simulated game during an Indians workout Sunday.

Still, it’s something to keep an eye on with Game 1 of the Fall Classic against the Chicago Cubs looming Tuesday night. Kipnis was one of Cleveland’s best batters during a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox in the American League Division Series, batting .364 with a home run and three RBIs. That production dipped in the LCS, as Kipnis gathered just one hit in 19 at bats.
