Red Sox Show Love For David Ortiz With Full-Page Ad In Boston Globe

It’s safe to say the Boston Red Sox fans have plenty of reasons to be thankful for David Ortiz.

Ortiz will play the final regular-season game of his career Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park against the Toronto Blue Jays. And ahead of Game 162, the Red Sox honored their 40-year-old slugger by dedicating a full-page ad in The Boston Globe to Big Papi.

(A note: The Boston Globe is owned by John Henry, who also is the principal owner of the Red Sox.)

Alongside the full-size photo of Ortiz reads the Red Sox’s special message for Big Papi:

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

“Over 116 seasons, nearly 2,000 players have worn a Red Sox uniform. You stand alone. You carried a team on your back & a city in your heart. Thank you for the impossible, for the hugs, for the smiles & for being the centerpiece of the Golden Age of this franchise.”

That’s pretty strong praise from such a storied franchise, but if anyone is worthy of such words, it’s Ortiz.
