The New York Jets’ playoff drought has been extended to six seasons.
New York officially was eliminated from the 2016 NFL playoff race after being absolutely crushed 41-10 by the Indianapolis Colts in a Week 13 “Monday Night Football” matchup at MetLife Stadium.
It took less than half a quarter for the Colts to take a 14-0 lead, and they extended that edge to 31-3 by the middle of the third quarter.
Jets quarterbacks Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty combined to complete just 16 of 37 passes for 214 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
The Jets barely missed the playoffs last season with a 10-6 record, and they entered this campaign with high expectations as a result. But a brutal early-season schedule, injuries and horrendous quarterback play have been too much for New York to overcome.
New York now sits at the bottom of the AFC East with a 3-9 record.
The Colts, meanwhile, improved to 6-6 and jumped into a three-way tie for first place in the AFC South.
