Allen Robinson’s serious knee injury hasn’t scared off his potential suitors.
The Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears reportedly are interested in signing the Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver after his current team declined to use the franchise tag on him. If Robinson doesn’t sign a long-term contract with the Jaguars by March 12 he’ll be able to leave the team as a free agent.
Robinson was a Pro Bowler in 2015, but his production dipped in 2016, and his 2017 season ended in Week 1 when he suffered an ACL injury. Nevertheless teams remain interested in signing the 24-year-old, despite the uncertainty over his post-recovery performance.
NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay reported Monday the Redskins likely will pursue him due to his versatility and the game-breaking speed he demonstrated prior to his injury.
ESPN’s Jeff Dickerson suggested Tuesday the Bears are “bound to have some degree of interest” in Robinson, given their ample salary-cap space desire to add a talented wideout to quarterback Mitchell Trubisky’s arsenal.
News of Jacksonville’s decision broke Tuesday, and other teams are likely to follow developments surrounding a player, who might be among the top free agents in this year’s class.
