Robert Griffin III Is Back: Ravens Agree To One-Year Contract With QB

An exiled quarterback finally is making his NFL return. No, we’re not talking about Johnny Manziel or Colin Kaepernick.

The Baltimore Ravens announced Wednesday they have agreed to a one-year contract with Robert Griffin III. Griffin tweeted his reaction moments after the news broke.

The 28-year-old quarterback hasn’t played an NFL snap since 2016 with the Cleveland Browns. Griffin took over the Browns’ starting QB job in December 2016 after returning from a shoulder injury but struggled to find success, throwing just two touchdown passes over five starts that season.

Cleveland released Griffin in March 2017, a steep fall from grace for a QB who went second overall in the 2012 NFL Draft and garnered Offensive Rookie of the Year honors with the Washington Redskins in 2012.

Griffin figures to be the primary backup to Ravens starter Joe Flacco, as Ryan Mallett is the only other quarterback listed on Baltimore’s depth chart.
