Twitter Has Field Day With Maple Leafs Handing Out White Rally Towels

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a tough spot.

They’ve simply been outplayed in their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Boston Bruins, and unless something changes quickly, their postseason will be ending sooner rather than later.

They were knocked around 5-1 in Game 1 before getting trounced 7-3 in Game 2. Now, they’re back in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre, hoping to turn things around and salvage their season.

And like many teams do this time of year, the Leafs placed rally towels on the seats of the ACC, but they elected to go white towels, which sure seems like a symbol for waving the white flag of surrender.

Take a look and judge for yourself.

Ironic.

Of course, many not too encouraged by the Leafs’ chances weighed in on the color choice on Twitter.

The Maple Leafs sure are aware of their predicament. They’ve been worked over by Boston’s top line, allowing 20 combined points for the trio, which incited a pretty funny comment from Toronto head coach Mike Babcock about the productivity.

Puck drop for Game 3 will be at 7 p.m. ET.
