Villanova Dominates Michigan, Wins Second NCAA Title In Three Seasons

Could a college basketball dynasty be brewing at Villanova?

The No. 1 seed Wildcats became the kings of college basketball again Monday night after defeating No. 3 seed Michigan 79-62 in the national championship game of the 2018 NCAA Tournament in San Antonio.

It’s Villanova’s second championship in the last three seasons — the Wildcats beat North Carolina on a stunning buzzer-beater in 2016. Michigan’s defeat is its fourth in a national title game since 1990, the most of any school in that span. The Wolverines haven’t won a Division I basketball title since 1989.

Donte DiVincenzo scored a game-high 31 points on 10-for-15 shooting off the bench for Villanova. He helped the Wildcats take a 37-28 lead at halftime, and build that advantage up to more than 20 points in the second half en route to a blowout win.

Villanova is the first team since North Carolina in 2005 to lead the nation in scoring and cut down the nets in March Madness as champions.
