A New England Patriots player never has won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, but Julian Edelman is trying to help change that.
His teammate, Devin McCourty, was the team's nomination for the prestigious award this year, which honors recipients for their excellence on and off the field.
McCourty has been one of New England's captains for 10 consecutive years, and started in every game he's played in on his way to three Super Bowls.
And in the community, the Patriots safety has worked with the Innocence Project, which supports wrongly convicted men, raised money for inner city families and purchased Chromebooks for students during the pandemic.
And that's not even the half of it.
But before the award is decided, Edelman wanted to make sure to publicly endorse McCourty.
"Since the day he stepped into the locker room DMac has lead by example," the receiver tweeted Wednesday. "He works hard to make his teammates, family, friends and the community around him better, every single day."
Well put, and well deserved.
