Miami just gained some depth under center
Jacoby Brissett is heading back to the AFC East.
The 28-year-old quarterback agreed to a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Brissett began his career with the New England Patriots in 2016 before spending the last four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He threw for 6,459 yards and 31 touchdowns while completing 59.5 percent of his passes in Indianapolis.
This move gives the Dolphins some extra depth under center behind second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa, the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, is expected to be the team’s starter, but Brissett should offer a valuable backup.
Some hoped Brissett would re-join the Patriots with the New England’s quarterback situation seemingly up in the air earlier this offseason. Cam Newton recently re-signed with the Patriots, but some still hoped New England would try to land Brissett to compete with him or, at the very least, have a sensible second-stringer of its own.
