Boston added some pop
The Boston Red Sox took their latest opportunity to add to an already talented farm system Sunday night.
Boston selected Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
The 21-year-old played his first two collegiate seasons in the Pac-12 with Stanford while also spending time in Massachusetts for two summers with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Montgomery jumped to the SEC with the Aggies and watched his power take off with 27 home runs. The outfielder did miss time down the stretch after suffering an ankle injury during super regionals against Oregon.
MLB.com ranked Montgomery, who could turn into an impact bat for the Red Sox, as the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2024 draft.
Craig Breslow’s first selection as Boston’s chief baseball officer comes with plenty of upside to watch as he works back from injury with the Red Sox.
Montgomery joins other top outfielders in the Red Sox system such as Roman Anthony and Miguel Bleis.
