How 2024 Red Sox Are Validating This Vision For Marcelo Mayer

PORTLAND, Maine — The Boston Red Sox are clawing their way to the MLB trade deadline with the chance to break a two-year playoff drought. That stands out to the organization’s top prospect.

Marcelo Mayer headlines a movement of top Boston prospects that keep creeping closer to the big leagues. Enjoying a fine season of his own in Double-A, Mayer should finish this season in Triple-A with sights on helping the Red Sox sooner rather than later.

As a result, an expedited path to success currently taking place with a young core is a good sign to the top Red Sox prospect.

“It’s awesome,” Mayer told reporters on Friday. “Obviously, I’m not up there so I don’t really know what they’re thinking. From what I hear and what I heard in spring training, I think those guys just always believed in themselves. They have a really talented group. Just the way the play the game extremely hard. They play the game the right way. The way they play obviously has led to wins. It’s really cool to see.”

Mayer also took time to congratulate Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran on winning MVP honors at the 2024 MLB All-Star Game. As the face of Boston’s dynamic ability, Duran set an example for talented prospects to look up to.

“We’ve kind of adopted that way of playing in Double-A,” Mayer added. “Just getting out of the box extremely hard like they do.”

From sharing his thoughts on the NBA champion Celtics on NESN’s “310 To Left” podcast to watching the current Red Sox compete for October, Mayer is more than equipped for Boston’s culture.

“That’s the thing with playing in Boston,” Mayer explained. “It’s never really a visualization. You’re expected to win. That’s our personality. That’s who we want to play for. We don’t want to play for teams who don’t expect to win. That’s what’s beautiful about the city of Boston. The fans of Boston, they demand excellence.”

Mayer continues to knock on the door of Triple-A Worcester while the Red Sox look to restart momentum with major implications leading up to the trade deadline.

“They’re doing a great job right now,” Mayer said. “Hopefully, they keep it going.”
