Braden Montgomery, the newest member of the Boston Red Sox organization, was thrilled to hear his name called in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Montgomery, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound outfielder from Texas A&M, was selected 12th overall by the Red Sox.
"Happiness," Montgomery told Xavier Scruggs on the ESPN broadcast when asked for his initial reaction. "I'm glad they took me. It's going to be awesome. I'm going to make the most of it."
The switch-hitting Montgomery has been lauded for his elite bat speed, power and defensive prowess in right field. He was widely considered to be a top-10 player in the draft as Baseball America tabbed Montgomery the seventh-best along with MLB.com (eighth) and ESPN (ninth).

"I want to be the best in every room and that's how I go to work each day and so that's how I approach things," Montgomery said on the broadcast.
When asked what he learned about himself during his time at College Station, the 21-year-old offered a response Red Sox fans surely will love: "I've learned how to be the person I want to be, how I want to treat people. Because that's ultimately the way people remember you. They're not going to remember how many homers I hit or how many times I strikeout. That's kind of what I've learned. I want to be a good teammate, be a good person."
