The Boston Red Sox have stocked up on pitching during the 2024 MLB Draft and continued that trend on Tuesday.
Boston selected North Carolina left-hander Shea Sprague in the 13th round.
The southpaw grew up right in the Red Sox's back yard as a native of Hanover, Mass. Sprague later attended Boston College High School before spending his collegiate career in the Tar Heel state with stints at Elon University as well as the University of North Carolina.
Sprague made an impact in his first two seasons at Elon, posting an ERA below 2.70 in each campaign. Prior to making the jump to power-five ball at UNC, Sprague added another Massachusetts connection to his resume when he played with the Harwich Mariners during the 2023 summer season of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow committed at the start of his tenure to building a pipeline of quality pitching from within the organization. He's backed that up with the quantity of arms Boston has added to the system in the 2024 draft.
The Red Sox wrap up the 2024 draft Tuesday just before Jarren Duran and Tanner Houck potentially take the field as Boston's representatives for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game at 8 p.m. ET.
