The Boston Red Sox open up the second half of their 2024 season Friday by taking on the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game series.

Boston entered the MLB All-Star break by taking two of three from the Kansas City Royals, which ensured the team would own a postseason position — the final American League wild-card spot — before the Midsummer Classic. The Red Sox won seven of their last 10 games while the division-leading Baltimore Orioles and second-place New York Yankees have struggled to maintain their respective positions — Boston sits 4 1/2 games back from the mountaintop in the AL East.

All-Stars Jarren Duran — with his Ted Williams MVP Award — and Tanner Houck are back with the club after partaking in the AL’s 5-3 victory over the NL in Texas. Both Red Sox representatives made appearances during the All-Star Game, though it was Duran’s go-ahead two-run home run that secured the speedy outfielder MVP honors.

Right-hander Nick Pivetta will take the mound for Boston against the Dodgers, returning after surrendering four earned runs through 6 2/3 innings against the Oakland Athletics on July 10.
