The Red Sox managed to end their losing streak Tuesday night without their best player.
Rafael Devers did not play in Boston's 6-3 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park, as Romy González replaced the three-time All-Star at third base. Devers rarely sits out -- he currently trails only Jarren Duran and Ceddanne Rafaela in Red Sox games played this season -- but Tuesday marked his second off day in less than three weeks.
Speaking with the media before Boston's latest win, Cora explained what led to Devers moving to the bench.
"He's not getting worse, but he's not getting any better," the Red Sox manager said of Devers' shoulder injuries, per The Boston Globe. "So last night, I talked to him before Game 2 (of the doubleheader) and told him to just let me know."

Cora added: "If he needs two or three, we'll do it. We have to take care of him. I think it's smart to do. You've seen it throughout the season when you take care of him, he takes care of us. So, you know, hopefully it's one day. But if he needs more than that, I'm willing to (give him that)."
Whether Devers is in the lineup or not, the Red Sox on Wednesday will try to secure a second straight win over the Blue Jays. NESN's complete coverage of the penultimate game of the rivals' series begins at 6 p.m. ET.
