The Boston Red Sox suspended outfielder Jarren Duran for two games after he directed a homophobic slur at a fan during Sunday's game against the Houston Astros.
On Monday, Red Sox manager Alex Cora addressed Duran's actions and how he will approach his role in helping Duran make improvements from his mistakes.
"From my end, obviously like I said, there's a lot of work to be done, but I'm here to help him out," Cora told reporters at Fenway Park. "I reach out to him throughout the day. He made a big mistake. He's living with it, right? As a manager, I gotta do my job. As a person, there's more from my end. This is not about what's going to happen tonight and the roster and all that. This is what I'm gonna do as a person to support him and help him to be better."
Cora added that while Boston's team is "not the same clubhouse as 24 hours ago," Duran will have support in his efforts to make improvements.

"I don't think it compromises who he is in the clubhouse," Cora added. "The kid made a mistake. Like I said before, I'm going to repeat myself. There's a lot of stuff that we have to do to help him out. There's stuff that he has to do to keep getting better."
