The Astros will get a major boost when they face the Red Sox at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday.
Houston reinstated Justin Verlander from the 15-day injured list, and the three-time Cy Young will start for the Astros in their series finale against Boston. Right-handed pitcher Seth Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land to make room for Verlander on the active roster.
The 41-year-old dealt with should inflammation at the start of the season, and it lingered throughout his 2024 campaign. Verlander was placed on the 15-day injured list after his June 9 start against the Los Angeles Angels.
He'll hope to provide a boost to Houston as it continues its hunt for an American League wild-card spot. Verlander has a 3.95 ERA in 57 innings this season with 51 strikeouts and 17 walks.
