CT Sun Star Calls Out Fever Fans After Caitlin Clark Matchup

Wednesday was another thrilling night for the WNBA, but the postgame reactions weren't as positive toward a Sun star.

Connecticut narrowly lost to the Fever, 84-80, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It was Indiana's fourth win in five games as Caitlin Clark broke the rookie 3-point record in the victory. DiJonai Carrington had the primary matchup on Clark, who scored 19 points off 7-for-17 shooting. The Sun guard had a chance to cut her team's deficit to one with 14 seconds to go but missed a 3-pointer.

Carrington stayed on the court after the final buzzer to embrace her girlfriend and Fever forward NaLyssa Smith. It seemed there were postgame reactions from fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse or on social media that prompted Carrington's callout after her team's loss.

"The indiana fever have the nastiest fans in the W. ew," Carrington posted on X.

Any associated mention of Clark on social media tends to prompt frenzied reactions, which Carrington received. She highlighted an offensive photoshop made by a fan that depicted her and Clark's images from George Floyd's murder in 2020.

"imagine thinking George Floyd’s murder is a joke. all because of a basketball game," Carrington posted on X on Thursday morning. "this is so sick."

Carrington is never one to hide her feelings, but her social media activity did show some of the negative side effects of the continued growth of the WNBA. The Sun won the season series against the Fever, 3-1, so the next time the sides could face each other would be in the playoffs.
