RGIII reportedly is out at ESPN
ESPN has made some relatively shocking personnel changes in recent years.
Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, Jalen Rose, Max Kellerman and Suzy Kolber were among the high-profile names to depart in 2023, losing their positions amid company-wide layoffs.
Robert Griffin III’s departure might not be in the same category, however.
RGIII was fired by The Worldwide Leader in Sports, according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand on Thursday/
“Griffin, who as recently as last year had been viewed as a rising star at ESPN, had two years remaining on his contract,” Marchand wrote. “He was hired three years ago after gaining interest from Fox Sports and ESPN. At the time, sources at both networks raved about what they described as one of the best auditions they have ever seen.”
Griffin was integral to ESPN’s coverage of college and professional football. He was part of the “Monday Night Countdown” panel for two seasons but was replaced by Jason Kelce this offseason. Griffin also served on one of ESPN’s top college broadcast teams alongside play-by-play announcer Bob Wischusen.
ESPN did not officially announce the move.
