Jets Look Completely Foolish After New Rumor About Star Player

Another day in New York

The Jets really can never get out of their own way.

New York is coming off a season that was littered with distractions, from Zach Wilson’s nightmarish play to Aaron Rodgers’ typical antics. The upcoming season had an opportunity to be the turning of a new leaf for the Jets, who boast a very talented roster and are in line to have a healthy Rodgers under center.

But it wouldn’t be a summer in the Meadowlands with a little drama, right? Haason Reddick has been a source of it since he was traded to New York, and the situation reached a new level of dysfunction Monday when NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported the edge rusher formally requested a trade.

This report obviously was a horrendous look for the Jets. Joe Douglas and company knew what they signed up for when they acquired Reddick from the Eagles in early April. Reddick is coming off back-to-back excellent seasons in Philadelphia, but the Birds dealt him before the final year of his contract knowing they weren’t going to pay him.

New York presumably had finances in mind when it gave up a third-round pick to land Reddick, but we probably shouldn’t have expected the organization to make sound judgment. The Temple product has yet to report to the Jets, and he now seemingly has a chance to leave East Rutherford before ever wearing a New York uniform.

Only the Jets.
