Patriots’ Matthew Judon Blasts Boston Radio Hosts Amid Contract Drama

Matthew Judon has garnered some of the most attention throughout New England Patriots training camp, though not for the right reasons.

Last week, Judon fled team practice after a presumably heated back-and-forth with Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo -- dragging the ongoing saga spawning from New England and Judon not reaching an extension agreement. Judon is entering the final season of a four-year deal, which will net him $6.5 million this upcoming campaign. Now while Judon has returned to join teammates, the 31-year-old's antics were enough to spark an outside reaction from Boston's local radiowaves. Judon, who caught wind of WEEI's Christian Fauria -- a two-time Super Bowl champion -- and Andy Gresh, took to social media to fire a shot of his own.

"I said when was aren’t in pads but besides me staying hours on hours to sign and throw the ball around with the fan how about yall come talk to me," Judon posted Tuesday on the social media platform X. "And this me tweeting. You (expletives) just sit down and talk."

Judon's been an integral part of New England, earning four consecutive Pro Bowl nods. On the flip side, Judon's also fresh off a torn bicep injury that limited him to four games in 2023, which -- to a degree -- would justify the organization's possible hesitation in upgrading Judon's soon-to-be expired contract. Nevertheless, Judon's perspective wasn't enough to avoid the ninth-year veteran from some harshly worded media scrutiny just hours after the Patriots wrapped up practice at Gillette Stadium.

"In the beginning of camp you were running out to the fans, the helpless fans who have nothing to do with this," Fauria said after Tuesday's training camp. "You were running out there throwing the football, playing the big role as one big giant just setup. That's not even who you are. You don't even care. You were doing it to gain favor and to show you're bigger than what football is. Then they say, 'Why aren't you doing it anymore?' Nothing's changed. Really? 'We only do that in pads.' They're in pads. You're in pads. I didn't see you run out early. That's like the biggest lie going."

The Patriots, who don't practice again until next Monday, will next open up their preseason against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday at Gillette Stadium.
