The New England Patriots have to trim their roster next week, but they're gaining some intel on a few free agents beforehand.
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson on Tuesday reported the Patriots are working out three players including defensive ends Chris McCarroll and Kobe Jones as well as edge rusher Max Roberts.
A product of Boston College who graduated in 2020, Roberts started his NFL career in 2021 as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams. The 27-year-old recently played in the UFL for the Memphis Showboats and has not appeared in an NFL game.
McCarroll was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year in the All-American Conference. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound undrafted rookie is a product of Grand Valley State who tallied 151 tackles and 31.5 tackles for loss in his collegiate career.

Jones, 26, most recently played in the CFL for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He previously spent time with NFL teams including the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers.
The Patriots have Keion White, Anfernee Jennings, Joshua Uche, Deatrich Wise and Oshane Ximines headlining their depth chart at the position. New England traded edge rusher Matthew Judon to the Atlanta Falcons last week.
